A new analysis of granular, block-by-block data reveals Black, Latino, Asian and low-income neighborhoods in the San Francisco Bay area are exposed to 55% more nitrogen dioxide (NO2) pollution than mostly white neighborhoods. Nitrogen dioxide pollution contributes to smog and is mainly produced by internal combustion-powered vehicles, including those on interstates like I-880 which slices through numerous mostly-Black West Oakland neighborhoods.
