President Biden revoked an order issued under the previous administration banning workplace trainings that addressed racism, sexism, and privilege. The order applied to training for federal workers and contractors, and recipients of government funding. “In the few months of its existence, it negatively impacted the lives and livelihoods of countless Americans and advanced the dangerous cause of white supremacy and disinformation,” Janai Nelson, associate director-counsel of the NAACP’s Legal Defense Fund, told the AP. Additionally, an executive order issued under the last administration to make it easier to fire career civil servants will not be widely implemented by President Biden, E&E reports. The order, viewed as a means of easily firing government scientists at agencies like the EPA and Energy Department, was largely ignored for reasons that remain unclear. Three House Democratic committee chairs have already called for reversing the order. (Trainings: AP, USA TODAY, E&E $, Federal Times; Order ignored: E&E $; House Democrats: E&E $)
