Major oil trade groups and corporate political action committees (PACs) donated millions of dollars to the campaigns of senators and representatives who pushed baseless election fraud conspiracy theories and supported the armed insurrection on January 6, Earther reports. Corporate PACs for Chevron and ExxonMobil, the country’s two largest oil firms, and the American Petroleum Institute have spent more than $2.4 million combined to support House and Senate members who sought to overturn the election results and supported, or at least refused to denounce, the armed insurrection of “racist-ass terrorists,” that sought to assassinate the Vice President and killed more Americans than the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya in September 2012.
