Denver Residents Want To Put The Fun Between Their Legs

Overwhelming traffic shut down Denver’s website at 8:00 am Monday morning, but city residents weren’t trying to buy Phish tickets, as one Twitter user joked, they were trying to submit applications for e-bike discount vouchers. The demand for e-bikes, which in urban and suburban settings can render cars unnecessary, was so high the first time vouchers were distributed the application window was shut in just weeks. This time, it overwhelmed Denver’s servers. ​​

“These can take the place of your car. Going uphill is effortless; going long distances is effortless. You don’t sweat so you can show up to work nice and fresh. So, people are starting to understand the benefits and the capabilities,” Kenny Fischer of FattEBikes in Denver told ABC-7. Denver’s e-bike voucher program offers $1,200 vouchers for income-qualifying residents, $400 for others, and an additional $500 for cargo e-bikes purchased at certain local bike shops.
