Dominion Power canceled plans for a $200 million gas-powered peaker plant in southern Virginia that would’ve created five permanent jobs. Dominion, which cancelled the long-delayed and over-budget Atlantic Coast Pipeline in July, told the Danville Register & Bee “we no longer believe it is possible to build” what it had hoped would be a 500 MW gas plant to be used only in times of peak demand. Driven by the Virginia Clean Economy Act, Dominion is required to propose 2,700 megawatts of energy storage in the coming years, and regulators have already approved four pilot projects that would couple solar energy with battery storage.
