Recent revelations about the extent and precision of Exxon’s understanding of the global climate crisis its product causes may have increased its legal jeopardy, with the oil and gas major facing dozens of lawsuits across the U.S. for deceiving consumers about its products’ impacts, The Guardian reports. Research published last week in Science found Exxon scientists in the 1970s “pretty much nailed these predictions with incredible accuracy,” as Alyssa Johl, vice-president of legal at the Center for Climate Integrity told The Guardian. The findings showing the company’s scientific understanding of climate belied its public statements of doubt, “are consistent with what we alleged in our lawsuit,” New Jersey attorney general Matthew Platkin, told the Guardian. “This study only increases our resolve to hold them accountable in court.” (The Guardian)
