A 14-story oceanfront condo building on the same Miami Beach avenue where the Champlain Towers condo collapsed in June 2021 was abruptly evacuated late last week over concerns about the building’s structural integrity. The Port Royale evacuation follows others in South Florida in the wake of the Champlain Towers collapse, about 1.3 miles away in Surfside, Florida. Coastal erosion, increased sunny day flooding, seawater infiltration, and other climate-linked causes were among the potential causes of the Surfside collapse.
