About Us

Nexus Media News is an editorially independent, nonprofit news service covering stories about climate change. Our partners include major news outlets that distribute our original videos, articles and infographics to an audience of millions.

Founded in 2015, Nexus Media News is a division of Climate Nexus, a sponsored project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, a 501(c)3 organization headquartered in New York City.

Mission

Our mission is to report on overlooked stories about climate change.

We aim to improve public understanding of the climate crisis, shedding light on the steps that humans can take to cope with this existential threat. Through partnerships with media organizations large and small, we are telling the stories that are often overlooked in the national conversation about climate change.

Terms

Articles and videos may be published at no charge under the terms of a Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported license. Please notify us at [email protected] with links to articles or videos after publication. Nexus Media News and relevant authors or producers should be credited as the original source. All images used in our articles are either in the public domain or available for republication with credit.

Code of Ethics

We believe that the more topics we cover, people we interview and stories we tell, the richer and more productive the public discourse on climate change will be. Because our value to our readers is only as strong as our product, we make no compromises on our editorial standards. In every story, we aim to:

  • Represent the facts as plainly and accurately as possible.
  • Ensure there are no hidden agendas or biases in any of our coverage.
  • Maintain editorial independence from our parent organization, Climate Nexus, and its funders.

Accuracy

Our staff writers and contributors follow rigorous journalistic standards, seeking out reliable sources, confirming facts with multiple sources, quoting experts and covering stories without distorting, misleading or sensationalizing events. Corrections will be published as soon as possible following the discovery of any errors.

Fairness

Accurate reporting requires fairness. We will omit no relevant details. We will avoid defamatory attacks on individuals, institutions and organizations, though we may offer well-reasoned critiques of their ideas and work. Where reasonable, we will include responses from individuals, institutions and organizations who are the subject of criticism. We will not stage, fictionalize or fabricate any part of our stories. We will not stereotype, and we will make every effort to respect the views and experiences of all people regardless of race, gender, age, religion, ethnicity, geography, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance or socio-economic status.

Independence

We are an editorially independent newsroom and refuse special treatment, gifts, favors or any other inducement to influence our coverage. Nobody outside our team sees our content prior to publication. While we are supported by philanthropic donations, acceptance of financial support does not constitute implied or actual endorsement of donors or their products, services or opinions. We do accept charitable gifts, grants and sponsorships from individuals and organizations for the general support of our activities, but our news judgment is not influenced by donor support. We do not pay for interviews or documents. We do not show anyone unaffiliated with Nexus Media News, or our funders, drafts of our work before it is published.

Racial Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Through our reporting and editorial vision, we aspire to a just and equitable world, to confront systemic racism, and to strive for a society where all people have access to clean air, clean water and a stable climate. We believe that centering marginalized voices in our coverage will lead to progress and solutions that will not only benefit local communities but ultimately the world at large.

It is a commonly used tool that will allow us to measure the reach of our work. If you prefer to copy the tracking pixel separately, here it is:
